Overcoming a Mid-Brand Crisis: Build a Personal Brand Without Causing Burnout

Have you ever felt the need to get away from it all?

Pump the breaks and take a little break from the hustle and bustle? We hear you. The same goes for social media - sometimes, you need to step away to create meaningful content.

This is what we like to call a "social media detox." In an age when content is being consumed and created faster than ever, we must be intentional in what content we share and how often. That's why a social media detox can be helpful in regaining control of our feeds. Today, I want to share my tips on how to do just that—step away from the chaos and take some time to plan meaningful content that reflects your values, your brand story, and your goals. We'll cover some practical steps that'll help bring order out of the chaos so you can create quality content with ease!

Setting Intention: Step Away From Social Media

Are you trying to create unique and meaningful content, but feeling overwhelmed and uninspired? When you're feeling that way, my biggest piece of advice is to give yourself a break. Step away from the noise of social media, and instead focus on what content you actually want to produce.

When you do this, two things will happen. First, you'll give your brain a break. All the information we consume can seem like a lot to take in—and it's okay to give yourself some mental space so that when you come back to it, you're clear headed and can create original ideas instead of just regurgitating something else someone once read, listened or ate.

Second, taking a break allows you to go back to social media refreshed and ready to create meaningful content that authentically resonates with your audience! That's because when we step away from the frantic activity and noise of social media, we can find our own voice—our own way of connecting with our followers—without the pressure of following everyone else’s lead.

Curate What You Want to Consume

Take the time to really curate the content and media you like, and then discover how it can fit into your own brand. What information and type of conversations are you interested in? What kind of content do you enjoy? Make a conscious effort to tune in to what makes you happy, what brings that spark of joy.

When it comes to social media, start by removing the accounts that don't bring you value—or those that make you feel anxious or at a lack of control. Unfollow them, mute them, even take a break from the platform if needed. Reintroduce yourself to what brings you joy and share stories that help others live a fuller life. When you bring your own values and transparency into something as public as social media, it will become easier for people to trust in your brand.

Rediscover Your Passion for Content Creation

You don't have to be the expert at everything, but you still need to create content with heart. When you start to pull away from your screen, it gives you time to really nurture your passion and refocus. It's important to reconnect with what inspired you in the first place.

Get back to basics

Take a step back from social media and focus on what content you actually enjoy creating. It could be funny take on current events or something more serious like promoting a cause. Ask yourself: what do I love? What kind of content makes me happy?

Draw inspiration from your everyday life

Think about what makes up your daily life—what topics do you like to talk about when you're hanging out with your friends? Here, it helps to think about what sets you apart from others—what are the unique perspectives that make up who you are? Your interests and passions provide the perfect source of inspiration for content creation.

Life outside of social media provides the best source of content ideas—it's all around us, if we just know where to look! Just remember: there's no need to overthink things—just show up as yourself, be creative and share some awesome stuff!

CONCLUSION

By taking a step back and re-evaluating your content and the way you use social media, you can create content that not only helps you reach your goals, but also brings meaning and value to your audience. When you’re feeling overwhelmed and like you’re not making any progress, it’s sometimes necessary to hit the reset button and give yourself and your content the break it needs to come back stronger than ever. Give yourself the space to create meaningful content that helps you reach your goals and build meaningful relationships with your audience.
